BUFFCOACHING
BUFFCOACHING PATHWAY
Since the foundation of Buffalo Running Company (BuffCo) in 2019, one of our core missions has been to create a better pathway for young athletes to reach the next level.
As our community grew, that mission expanded to include creating more opportunities for young runners to stay involved in the sport long term. For some, that means competing at the next level in university and beyond. But for many young runners, opportunities to remain involved in the sport begin to fade after leaving school.
In 2025, we established BuffCoaching - our coach education and development programme. Once again, the aim is to create a pathway: this time for young Hong Kong runners to explore coaching and a potential career in the sport beyond school.
Our first programme was the Gap Year Coach position, first taken up by our very own Christopher Whitehead. During his gap year, Christopher helped coach our Youth Team while competing on the local trail racing circuit, gaining first-hand experience of life as a semi-professional runner and coach before heading to university.
Christopher became the first recipient of the introductory level of our coaching pathway -the Foundation Running Coach certification.
You can see the full details of the BuffCoaching pathway below.
